Preparing Cored Decks for Hardware

Greg, Aliya, #277

We did a deck "make-over" this past summer and did the following treatment on all holes passing through cored areas:

a) enlarge each top hole and dig out core cavity to allow resin to settle and serve as a base (no need to drill larger hole in lower skin).

b) "wet-out" with unthickened resin as described in email below, and let drain.

c) fill cavity with thickened resin (we used West system) and let cure.

d) drill holes for bolts and reattach fittings with deck bonding stuff.

This was a real messy job and time consuming but it sure does result in a solid and water resistant system.
