Fuel Additives

"Leaded fuel was originally designed to reduce engine valve seat failure as well as raise gasoline octane rating. The use of unleaded gasoline in the Atomic Four does not normally cause any damage to valve seats as long as the valve clearance is properly adjusted and stock valve springs are fitted. For that reason it is considered more beneficial to add octane booster when the fuel octane rating is below 92 than it is to add a lead additive to unleaded fuel." Automic Four Engine Service,

I use regular gas and add some Marvel Mystery Oil just before I pump. I use about a half pint of MMO to each gallon of fuel. The MMO keeps the valves slippery, which is what the lead in the "old fuel" was really used for.

Here in Florida, I also add a quality fuel stabilizer to my fuel. We don't run the motor all too often and it prevents the gas from turning to varnish all over our brand new carburetor.

While you are at it, substitute a quart of MMO for a quart of 30 weight oil when you do an oil change. It will keep the rest of the engine running well.

I use whatever the marina offers, which is usually just one and is premium. the price is. I do add lead. I get the additive from AutoZone, an auto-parts retailer. I just follow the instructions on the plastic

bottle, like it was a car.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil and a Lead additive. I just follow the instructions on both containers for quantities to add. Does it help? I dont know but, it makes me feel better feeding the old girl what she was built for.
